How to Text a File to a Phone

If you've ever wanted to send a file to a cell phone or smart phone via text message, you've probably encountered a few issues trying to do so. Most phones don't allow files to be attached to text messages if they aren't images or videos, which means that PowerPoint presentation you want to share with a friend can't be sent using a phone. There is a way around this restriction, however--send the file as an email to a text message email address.

Instructions

1. Visit "The Complete List of Text Messaging Email Addresses" (see Resources) and locate the email address format for the wireless carrier you'd like to send the message to. As an example, AT&T's text message email address format is the 10-digit phone number followed by "@txt.att.net".

2. Create a new email using your preferred email software.

3. Enter the text message email address of the phone you'd like to send a file to in the "To:" field. Substitute "10digitphonenumber" with the 10-digit telephone number of the phone--for example, [e-mail] for Sprint.

4. Attach the file you'd like to send to that email and click "Send."
