Tips & Warnings
Second Life provides for streaming of longer MP3 files through using playlists uploaded to the world. The music will remain on your computer but you can assign a playlist in the audio options for your rooms, land and objects to trigger the music to be played.
Make sure that you own the rights to the music you upload. Uploading just 10 seconds of a song that you do not have the rights to can land you in trouble with Second Life and potentially get your account suspended.
