How to Assign Domain Names
Bloggers and individuals who run their own online businesses place a lot of importance on their domain names. Assigning a domain name to your website is important because it allows visitors to type in only one Web address each time, instead of typing in your IP address, which can change every 24 hours.

1
Decide on a domain name. Take into consideration the keywords of what your offer on your site and what people in your niche industry or market often search for. You can purchase a domain name from sites like GoDaddy.com or you can get them for free from Web hosting sites like DynDNS.com. Since DynDNS.com makes it easy and is free to assign a domain to your server, it will be used as an example. Please note that many Web hosting services are available and you should weigh their costs and what they offer you before making a final decision on which one to use.
-
2
Create an account on DynDNS.com or your chosen Web domain host. Pay any fees required to access all services offered by the site.

3
Claim your domain name. Use the site's availability search tool to find out if the domain name you want is available. If not, tweak it or use different keywords or names until you find one you want to use.
At DynDNS.com, click on "My Account," then "Host Services" in the left-hand menu. A screen will come up showing you all of your current host names. Click "Add New Host name."
-
4
Enter your domain name and choose which suffix (.com, .org, .us) you want to use. This is the name visitors will type in to view your site.
-
5
Decide on your hosting service. If you want to host the site from your own server, select "Host with IP address." If you have paid for another type of website hosting, use that. This assigns the domain name to the site by using the support of the hosting server.
-
6
Ensure updates. If you host the site from your own personal server, you need to plan for the changes that will happen with your IP address. If you use a hosting service, it will take care of these updates for you.
DynDNS.com has an update client that you can download to send updates to your website's account every time your IP address changes. Download and install the software onto your computer, and you will not have to worry about constantly changing your host IP address to keep your website visible.
