How to Become a HUD Agent in Colorado Springs
The United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) sells the homes that it takes back from borrowers who have foreclosed on their loans. Foreclosed homes are generally less expensive than owner-occupied homes, making them popular with home buyers and investors. With the high rate of foreclosures in 2010, there are many homes to sell, making them popular with real estate agents looking to plump up their inventories. A real estate agent must be HUD approved in order to list or sell HUD property, but becoming a HUD agent in Colorado Springs is not difficult.

Obtain your Colorado real estate license by attending a State of Colorado Division of Real Estate (DORA)-approved real estate school. A list of approved schools is included on the DORA website (see Resources). You will need to take the pre-licensing courses required by state law, prior to taking the DORA licensing test. Only licensed real estate agents will be considered by HUD.

Attend the HUD classes that your broker provides. Each broker chooses from a menu of training options, so the length of your training and whether it is provided via books or video is determined by your broker. At the completion of your training your broker will send HUD the necessary paperwork to have you approved to sell HUD properties in Colorado Springs.
