How to Get ISP From Email

How to Get ISP From Email thumbnail
You can find a lot of information about an email by reading the header.

The ISP of an email is the Internet Service Provider, or the company that provides the Internet connection from which the email was sent. Although an email doesn't list the ISP, it lists an important piece of information that you can use to find the ISP quickly and easily. This is called the IP address, and it is an address that is unique to the connection from which the email was sent.

Instructions

    • 1

Click on the email for which you'd like to determine the ISP. Click on "Header" or "more information" or "view more" or "view" or "more," depending on the email program. This will display a wealth of information about the email, such as information about the reply-to address and the time, date and paths of the email.

    • 2

Scroll through the list to locate "IP Address." You might see the IP address listed more than once. If so, use the last one listed, because spammers are less able to tamper with the final IP listing than the previous ones.

    • 3

Copy the IP Address listed. Go to an IP Address locator page (see References for links to examples) and place the address in the appropriate box. The search for the IP Address will provide details about the ISP of the email, such as the name, location and contact information.
