How to Install HP 6980 Network Printer
A network printer is just local printer that you have connected to a wireless network to enable wireless printing. This is especially helpful for printers like the HP Deskjet 6980 that do not have a built in wireless adapter. By networking the printer, you can now send it print jobs from any location within range of the wireless router without connecting to it physically.

Use the Ethernet cable that came with your HP 6980 to connect the port in the back to one of the available ports in the back of the wireless router.

Open the Start Menu on your computer. Click “Devices and Printers.”

Click “Add a Printer.” Select the second option, which is to install a wireless, networked or Bluetooth printer to your computer’s settings.

Click “Install Drivers” if prompted. Click “Next” when your computer indicates that the printer drivers are installed.

Enter the name you want associated with your HP 6980, such as “Mike’s Printer.” Click “Next.”

Indicate whether you want to share the HP 6980. Click “Next.” Indicate whether you your computer to automatically choose the HP 6980 to print each time you start a print job. Click “Finish.”

Tips & Warnings
Lack of Internet connection will prevent a network printer from working. If you have trouble connecting to the HP Deskjet 6980 after you have connected it to the wireless router, verify the Internet connection before proceeding.
There may be slight variations in these instructions depending on the brand and model of your wireless router. If you have trouble finding the Ethernet port or connecting your printer to it, consult your wireless router’s user guide.
