How to Make a Carton Box Fire Truck
The bright lights, vivid colors and squealing siren---young children love fire trucks. Use basic art supplies and an egg carton to help your child make his own fire truck toy. And take advantage of this perfect opportunity to discuss fire safety with your child.

1
Open an empty one-dozen egg carton container. Cut along the middle fold to separate the lid of the egg carton from the bottom with the egg cups. The lid of the egg carton will be the body of your fire truck---lay it flat on the table. Paint the entire lid red. You may need two or three coats of paint to cover any print. Allow the lid to dry completely.

2
Create a ladder for the fire truck using two craft sticks and construction paper. Cut four 1/2 inch by 2 inch pieces of paper. These will be the rungs of the ladder. Put a dot of glue on the ends of each paper and glue to the craft sticks.

3
Create additional accessories for the fire truck. Cut 2-inch circles for the wheels and a 1-inch circle for the steering wheel. Cut a piece of yarn to make the fire hose.
-
4
Glue the accessories to the painted lid. Attach the ladder to the top of the lid, the wheels to the bottom, the hose near the back and the steering wheel near the front.
-
5
Personalize the truck by making your child a firefighter. Cut out a small photo of your child and glue it to the middle of the lid. Cut out pictures of other friends and family if desired. Or use a picture of the family dog---every fire truck needs a fire dog.
