Instructions

    • 1

Purchase a wireless router and a PCI adapter to connect your desktop to the wireless Internet.

    • 2

Power off the computer by selecting the "Start" menu in the lower left corner and choose the "Shut Down" option. Take out any screws holding the cover on the side of the computer with a Phillips screwdriver.

    • 3

Find the PCI opening in the motherboard, which will be rectangular-shaped. Push the PCI card into the opening and check that it fits snugly. You may need to pry off a metal face cover with a flat head screwdriver to get the card in. Push the face plate back into place when you are done.

    • 4

Turn on the power switch to the wireless router. Attach the cable to the proper spot on the router by screwing it in and inserting the router power cord into an outlet. Ensure the lights are all on the front of the router.

    • 5

Insert the CD provided with the wireless adapter into the computer's disc drive. The disc will install the network card driver to the computer's operating system. Some computer systems automatically recognize the wireless device and you may not need to do this step. Follow any directions that pop up on the screen.
