How to Design a Salon Spa

How to Design a Salon Spa thumbnail
A salon should be a relaxing getaway.

When you are planning to open up a salon spa, designing how you want the space to look is just as important as the layout. When you design an inviting space, you help attract new clients to your spa as well as entice returning clients to come in for beauty services or treatments. The clients should be an important factor in designing the salon spa, starting from the reception area in the front to a shampoo station in the back.

Instructions

    • 1

Design a cohesive layout for the salon spa that will be easy for clients to find their way around, as well as employees while they work.

    • 2

Designate the reception area to be in the front of the salon, so that your employees greet incoming clients. Create a comfortable seating area near the front of the spa as this location will give clients a first impression of your spa.

    • 3

Display your retail products near the front of the store so they are noticeable at all times by clients. To save space, set up products on shelving directly behind the reception desk.

    • 4

Install stylist chairs around the perimeter of the salon, which will leave an open floor plan and look more spacious. Designate the back of the salon for shampooing or other services like manicures or pedicures.

    • 5

Create one or more rooms for private services like waxing, facials or massaging. Designate an additional room for a staff lounge, as well as a storage area for products. To save space, set up partitions in the staff lounge and use a small area for products.

    • 6

Paint the salon in soothing colors if you want guests to be relaxed, or opt for bolder hues for a high energy spa. Soothing colors include lavender, sage, creamy yellows or blues. Bold colors are burgundy, eggplant or forest green.

    • 7

Add texture to the space through accessories and textiles. Add rugs and pillows to the seating area, wall art or sconces to walls and incorporate layers of light throughout the space. Incorporate different textures like wood, metal and glass for a cohesive and unique space.
