How to Finalize a DVD with Nero

When working with Nero to burn your own customized DVDs, you may have noticed the option to "Finalize" your disc on the burning menu. This is an often-overlooked feature that is used to ensure proper burning and maximum compatibility for your discs. Finalizing checks the disc for errors, scratches, missing sectors and other flaws that may prevent proper playback. It also "closes off the disc," marking it as a complete disc, unable to be re-written. This is important for compatibility purposes, as some media players will not recognize a re-writable DVD disc.

Instructions

    • 1

      Open Nero.

    • 2

Open an existing DVD composition by selecting "Open" from the program toolbar or create a new DVD composition by selecting "New Composition" then "DVD" from the quick-start menu.

    • 3

Click "Burn" at the lower right-hand corner of the program window.

    • 4

Following the burning process, a notification window will appear notifying you that the burn has completed. On this screen you will see buttons labeled "Verify," "Finalize" and "Eject." Place a check in the box labeled "Finalize" and press "OK" to start the finalization process. You will be notified when the process is complete.
