How to Make Icons Small thumbnail
Computer icons may be too large for your liking.

Children and those with poor eyesight may require larger icons on their desktop computers. However, there are those who would rather not cover their desktop wallpaper with enormous icons. There are ways to make your icons smaller, so you can store more on your desktop or enjoy your wallpaper. Two ways to achieve this are to change the style of your desktop or change the icon size, using advanced options.

Instructions

  1. Changing Icon Size by Changing the Style

      Click on the "Start" button in the lower left corner of the computer screen.

      Scroll over to "Control Panel," located in the middle of the right side of the "Start" menu, and click on it.

      Select "Appearance and Themes," located on the top right side of the "Control Panel" menu.

      Scroll down to "Display" in "Appearance and Themes" and click on it.

      Click on "Appearance" at the top of the "Display" menu.

      Move your cursor over the drop-down box under "Windows and buttons."

      Select "Windows XP style."

      Choose either olive green or sliver under "Color scheme," located just under the Windows XP style drop-down box.

      Select "Apply" button at the bottom right corner of the "Display" menu.

    Changing Icon Size by Using Advanced Options

      Click on the "Start" button in the lower left corner of the computer screen.

      Scroll over to "Control Panel," located in the middle of the right side of the "Start" menu, and click on it.

      Select "Appearance and Themes," located on the top right side of the "Control Panel" menu.

      Scroll down to "Display" in "Appearance and Themes" and click on it.

      Click on "Appearance" at the top of the "Display" menu.

      Move your cursor over the drop-down box under "Windows and buttons."

      Select "Windows Classic style."

      Choose any color option under "Color scheme," located just under the Windows Classic style drop-down box. You can even choose a style that features large fonts, as you will customize the fonts next.

      Click on the "Advanced" button, in the Display menu, at the bottom right corner.

      Scroll down to "Icon," under "Item" in the "Advanced" menu. You will now see a font listed for the present icon and a size listed for the icon's font.

      Select the smallest font size by clicking on the arrow located to the right of the font. Once you have chosen your font size, click "OK" in the bottom right corner. That box will close, and you will be taken back to the "Display" menu.

      Click the "Apply" button at the bottom right corner of the "Display" menu.
