How to Use a Laptop Without a Phone Line
Not having a phone jack in your laptop will only restrict your ability to access the internet. All other software and hardware functionality will remain constant. Laptops may come equipped with a standard telephone port to connect to a land line or an ethernet port for connecting to a router. Laptops without phone or ethernet ports must connect wirelessly to the Internet, and usually include an internal wireless modem.

Turn on your wireless modem by right-clicking on the wireless icon in the system tray at bottom right of the screen, or by pressing the wireless function button on your keyboard. You will now see a list of available networks and the strength of their signals.

Choose the network name (SSID) you wish to join, and double click it. If the network is secured, you will need a password to join, which you can get from the network administrator.

Browse the Internet through any number of popular web browsers, or using Windows' built-in Internet Explorer. Without phone or ethernet ports, you must be connected to a wireless network in order to access the Internet.
