How to Activate Counter-Strike

"Counter-Strike" is a popular online first-person shooter released in 1999 that was originally a free modification for the game Half-life. Since then it has become an official Valve game that is played through the Steam gaming service. "Counter-Strike" has three different versions, commonly referred to as 1.6, Condition Zero and Source, each activated the same way. If you have bought the game through Steam's digital store, skip to step four.

Instructions

      Find the product retail key. Depending on your version of the game, this code will be on the box or the game manual. It will be either 13 or 25 characters long.

      Load Steam. Select the "Games" menu along the top bar of the window. Click on the "Activate a Product on Steam" option.

      Follow the on-screen instructions. Enter the product retail key when prompted.

      Check that the game is listed in your library under "Games" in your Steam account. If it is not there, restart Steam.

    • 5

      Right-click on the "Counter-Strike" title that is in your games list. Press the install button to start downloading the game files.

Tips & Warnings

  • You might own some of these games as part of packages. You will need the retail key from the game bundle of your "Counter-Strike" version.

  • You can only register a product key to one Steam account.
