How to Replace an HP Pavilion ZE Keyboard

Pavilion ZE keyboard replacement.

It is not uncommon for laptop keyboards to become worn out. Sometimes the keys get sticky or they fail to register when pressed. Removing the keyboard from a laptop depends on the model and style.

Things You'll Need

• Small Philips screw driver
• Small flat head screw driver
• Replacement Keyboard

Instructions

1. Unplug the power cord and remove the battery from the computer. The battery should unclip from the compartment underneath the laptop. Open the laptop lid and set it as far back as you can to expose the keyboard cover.

2. Remove the cover for the keyboard. The cover is the panel across the farthest edge of the computer toward the monitor. Use the flat head screw driver to gently pry off the panel. Remove the speaker assembly from the holding screw. Lift the assembly off carefully and remove the plug that attaches it to the motherboard.

3. Undo the four screws that attach the keyboard. Lift the keyboard a little and pull it toward the farther edge of the computer to release the bottom part of the keyboard from the front plate. Underneath the keyboard is a copper colored tape cable that connects the keyboard to the motherboard. Unclasp the copper tape cable and put the keyboard to one side.

4. Connect the new keyboard by attaching the copper tape cable to the motherboard. Set the keyboard on top of the laptop and slide the bottom of the keyboard into the body. Lay the top of the keyboard back in line with the screw holes and screw the keyboard back down.

5. Replace the speaker assembly and screw it down. The keyboard cover snaps back into place in four different sections. Snap from the left to the right side of the laptop to secure it back into place.

Tips & Warnings

• The keyboard tape cable is delicate, so don't excessively bend it.
