A CD-ROM drive on your computer is very useful but it is important to know what to do when something goes wrong. If you accidentally put two CDs in the drive at once, the drive is likely to freeze up and stop working. In some cases the drawer might not open at all, so you need to know how to retrieve the disks and get the drive back in working order.

      Restart the computer and press the eject button on the CD-ROM as the computer is restarting. Sometimes restarting the PC will free a stuck CD-ROM drive.

      Locate the small bypass hole on the front of the CD-ROM drive. This small hole is generally located right underneath the tray, near the eject button.

    • 3

      Unbend a paper clip and insert it into the bypass hole. You will hear the CD-ROM drive spin and the tray will eject. Remove the CDs from the tray.
