You can print your own greeting cards at home.

Greeting cards can get expensive during the holidays. Making your own cards is a smart way to save money and offer a more personal card to your friends and family. You can create your own image for the front of the card and include a personal message or family photo. Printing a borderless card involves adjusting your printer's settings.

Instructions

    • 1

Open your photo editing software. Select the "File" drop-down menu, and select "Open." Select the image or photo you want to use as the front of your greeting card. You can also create your own image using a drawing program, but you'll still need to open it in the editing software to adjust its size.

    • 2

Select the "Edit" drop-down menu. Adjust the size of the image to 5-by-7-inches. The image will take up exactly half of your card and will serve as the front cover.

    • 3

Select the "File" drop-down menu and then "Printer Properties," so you can adjust the printing format. At the top left of the dialogue box should be an option for "Borderless." Click the box next to it. If you see no borderless option, your printer is not able to do borderless printing, and you will have to install a different printer.

    • 4

Change your selected paper size to 5-by-7-inches so the image will only be printed on what will be the front of your card. If your printer has an "Expansion" or "Extension" section under the "Borderless" heading, set it to "Min."

Open your printer's feed tray as wide as it will go. Insert your paper or cardstock with the long edge up instead of the short edge. Select "Print" from the "File" menu and wait for the paper to move all the way through the printer.

Fold the card stock in half along the edge of the printed image. Write a personal message on the inside section, and sign it.
