How to Replace the HP DV 2000 Keyboard
While laptop computers generally have very durable keyboards, it occasionally becomes necessary to replace one. Unfortunately, replacing the keyboard in the HP Pavilion DV2000 is not as simple as replacing a keyboard for a desktop computer, which can simply be thrown away. However, the keyboard for the Pavilion DV2000 is designed to be a user-replaceable part, and with a little effort, you can replace the keyboard on your own if it becomes broken or dirty.
Things You'll Need
- Phillips-head screwdriver
- HP Pavilion DV2000 keyboard (part number 441317-001 for United States, or 441317-031 for United Kingdom)
Instructions

1
Turn the Pavilion DV2000 completely off. If the power button glows, the computer is on standby; turn it on, then shut it down again. Remove the battery pack and place the Pavilion DV2000 on a tabletop with the screen facing down.
-
2
Remove the three Phillips-head screws from the empty battery compartment of the Pavilion DV2000. These screws hold the keyboard to the body of the Pavilion DV2000.
-
-
3
Flip the Pavilion DV2000 over, and open the screen hinge fully.
-
4
Move the keyboard gently toward the back of the Pavilion DV2000 so that the locking tabs on the bottom of the keyboard come out from under the palm rest. Lift the keyboard out of the Pavilion DV2000 until you can see the cable connecting the keyboard to the logic board.
-
5
Use your thumbnail to push the locking mechanism for the keyboard cable toward the back of the computer. With the cable unlocked, it can be freely removed from the connector. Set the old keyboard aside.
-
6
Hold the replacement Pavilion DV2000 keyboard over the body of the computer so that the cable can reach the connector. Slide the cable into the connector as far as possible, and push the locking mechanism toward the palm rest. Place the keyboard into the Pavilion DV2000 and push it toward the palm rest to engage the locking tabs.
-
7
Close the screen hinge and flip the Pavilion DV2000 over. Replace the three Phillips-head screws in the battery compartment.
-
8
Replace the battery and return the Pavilion DV2000 to its original position.
