How to Set Up a Webcam in Windows Vista Gateway Notebook

Being connected to the web and social media sites is incredibly easy today, and with the ease of video chat services like Skype, it's easy to see why most Gateway laptops come with integrated webcams. If your Gateway laptop doesn't have a webcam, you can set one up in a matter of 10 minutes or less. The process for installing a webcam on a Gateway Notebook with Windows Vista is basically the same as most other Windows computers.

Instructions

    • 1

Install the drivers for your webcam on your laptop. If your webcam came with a CD, the drivers are included on the disc. Insert the disc into the CD-ROM drive and follow the on-screen instructions. If your webcam did not come with a CD, you can find the drivers in the support section of the website for the manufacturers of the webcam.

Plug in the webcam into an available USB port on your laptop and position the webcam so that it is facing you. Most cameras clip to the top of your laptop monitor and need to be adjusted so that the camera is facing you. Other cameras simply sit on your desk next to the laptop and also must be adjusted so the camera is facing you.

Open your video chat client and let it detect your new webcam. Once it has detected your webcam, you can start video chatting.

Tips & Warnings

  • Make sure the webcam is compatible with Windows Vista and the other specifications of a Gateway Notebook before purchasing the webcam.
