Yahoo Messenger Is Not Connecting

When you turn on your computer and launch Yahoo Messenger, a variety of reasons may prevent you from connecting to the instant messenger. From internet connections to password issues, before giving up hope of chatting through Yahoo Messenger, troubleshoot the problem and correct it. Because it's save online, your friends list will still be intact, regardless of the problem.

Instructions

1. Check your Internet connection. Unplug your modem and router for 15 seconds and plug them back in. Click your network bar to see if you have connected to the Internet. If not, click your network's name to connect manually. If you do not have an Internet connection, your Yahoo Messenger will not work.

2. Change your password on Yahoo Mail. Under Mail Options, type in your old password followed by your new password. Verify your new password. Open Yahoo Messenger and try logging in with the new password. If your account is hacked or you forgot your password, you may not be able to use Yahoo Messenger.

3. Uninstall Yahoo Messenger if the file is corrupt. Do this under the Control Panel and "Change/Add Programs." Re-download Yahoo Messenger from their website and run the installation Wizard. Restart your computer and launch Yahoo Messenger. Use your information to log in.
