Car donations for Vietnam Vets in Lake County, Illinois, are administered by the Vietnam Veterans of America, Illinois State Council. The donation form can be completed through an online process. Your donation is tax deductible. Donated cars are auctioned off, and all proceeds go to veterans and their families.

Fill out the online donation form. You will be asked to provide such information as the car's mileage, condition, fair market value (up to $500), and any known repairs that are needed. You must have a lien-free title for the vehicle. When you're done, click the "Submit" button. The Illinois State Council will accept donations of cars that are running or not. All vehicles are accepted, including boats, motorcycles, RVs, and campers.

Schedule a day and time for your vehicle to be picked up. A local tow company will contact you with in 24 hours of submitting the online application. They will tow your vehicle free of charge on behalf of the Vietnam Veterans of America. The towing company will provide you with a receipt as proof of pickup.

Look for a tax-deductible donation receipt to be sent to you in the mail. If your car sells for more then $500, you will receive an IRS Form 1098-C with the corrected amount. Hold on to this form. You will need it when filing your taxes.
