How to Make a Cloth Towel Cake

Make a towel wedding cake out of rolled bath towels for a cute shower gift.

A towel wedding cake is a creative way to display towels that you are giving as a wedding gift. You can place a wedding cake made of towels in the center of the gift table as a pretty focal point, or in the center of the bride's table as a fun centerpiece. Towel wedding cakes only require a few extra supplies that you can find at any craft or fabric store.

Things You'll Need

• 2 full-size bath towels
• 3 hand towels
• 3 washcloths
• Safety pins
• Straight pins
• Ribbon
• 12-inch cardboard round

Instructions

1. Unroll a full-size bath towel and lay it horizontally in front of you. Fold the towel into thirds, bringing the top of the towel one-third of the way down, and folding the bottom edge up over to the top edge. The towel should now be long and skinny.

2. Fold the same towel again in half lengthwise, so it even skinnier. Repeat these steps with the second full-size towel. Lay both towels end-to-end, and safety pin the two ends together. You should now have one long, skinny towel.

3. Begin at one end of the connected towels, evenly rolling the towels like a cinnamon roll all the way to the other end. Sit the roll upright so that the folded edges of the towel are facing upward. The opposite end of the roll will show the uneven, unfolded edges of the towel, which should face down. Place the roll on the cardboard round.

4. Insert straight pins into the end of the roll to prevent it from unrolling. Tie a ribbon around the roll, centered in the middle, and tie it in a bow at the front.

5. Lay the hand towels out next, and bring the top edge down to the halfway point of the towel. Repeat the safety pin and rolling steps that you did for the full size towels. Securely pin each roll and tie a ribbon around it.

6. Follow the same folding method for the washcloths to create the top layer of the cake.

7. Stack the rolls on top, and insert more straight pins at an angle from the bottom of one layer down into the layer before it. Decorate the top and each layer of the cake with flowers or more ribbon.

Tips & Warnings

• When folding the hand towels and washcloths, keep in mind that the goal is to make the hand towel and washcloth layers roughly the same height as the bottom layer of full-size towels.
