How to Process Rebates
Many times consumers purchase an item based on an attractive rebate offer, but according to a 2005 Business Week article, between 40 to 60 percent of all rebates are never processed by the shopper. Many shoppers either throw out components that are essential to the rebate process or just forget to redeem it altogether.

1
Obtain all the items you need for your rebate before leaving the store, including all receipts, boxes or packaging and rebate forms.
-
2
Read your rebate form carefully.
-
-
3
Make a checklist of all the items that the rebate form requests.
-
4
Save any boxes or packaging that your item came in. Do not throw anything away until you are sure you have all the items necessary to process the rebate.
-
5
Cut out any UPC codes from the packaging that the rebate asks for. Be careful to fulfill the exact requirements of the rebate, as some manufacturers may ask for more than one UPC code from your packaging, while another may ask for the entire panel that the UPC code is on.
-
6
Fill in your rebate form carefully, completely and legibly
-
7
Make copies of your form, receipts and UPC code for your record.
-
8
Mail in the entire package before the rebate expires. Use your checklist to make sure you have fulfilled all of the requirements of the rebate. Some rebates require the original receipts to be sent in, so check to see that you have not used a copy with your rebate package.
-
9
Keep copies of your rebate application in case the manufacturer claims you have not included a necessary item.
-
10
Check your mail carefully. Some rebate processors may send your check in an envelope designed to look like junk mail so you will accidentally throw it out.
