How to Rollback Windows Media Player to 9

Windows Media Player is a digital media player developed and distributed by Microsoft. It comes pre-bundled with the Microsoft Windows operating system as the default media player. Microsoft Updates automatically updates your Media Player to the latest version. If you are experiencing compatibility issues with the new version of Media Player and software running on your computer, you may wish to rollback Media Player to an earlier, working version, such as version 9. The only way to do this is to uninstall the current version and install Windows Media Player 9.

Instructions

    • 1

Click "Start" from the System Tray located at the bottom of the desktop. Click "Control Panel" from the right side of the Start menu. Click "Programs and Features" from the Control Panel.

    • 2

Click "Windows Media Player" from the list of programs. Click the "Uninstall" button to remove the program. Click "OK" to confirm you want to remove the program.

    • 3

Download Windows Media Player 9 (see Resources).

    • 4

Double-click on the downloaded file and follow the onscreen instructions of the Windows Media Player 9 installation wizard.
