Instructions

    • 1

      Unplug the power cord of the Maytag Performa washer from the electrical outlet before attempting to replace the motor pulley. Slide a putty knife under the front of the washer between the top lid and the washer cabinet, lifting up on the knife to detach the top from the plastic clips on the cabinet.

      Tilt the top lid back against the wall so it is setting on the rear hinges. Locate the screws on the inside of the front panel near the top of the washer.

      Unfasten the screws on the inside of the front panel with a screwdriver. Lift the front panel off the metal clips on the bottom of the washer cabinet, setting the panel out of the way.

      Loosen the bolts that hold the motor to the motor carriage with a socket wrench until you can remove the bolts from the carriage. Pull the motor off the carriage, taking the belt off the motor pulley.

      Unplug the electrical wiring connector from the motor by hand. Break the plastic pulley off the motor shaft with a pair of pliers until all the pieces are removed from the shaft.

      Slide a new plastic motor pulley over the motor shaft, pressing the pulley onto the shaft by hand until it locks into place. Put the washer belt over the motor pulley, securing the motor to the motor carriage with bolts.

      Plug the electrical wiring connector into the motor by hand. Slide the front panel over the metal clips at the base of the washer, securing the top of the panel with screws.

      Flip the top lid back down over the washer cabinet, pressing down on the lid to secure it to the plastic clips on the cabinet. Plug the power cord of the Maytag Performa washer into the electrical outlet.
