How to Mount a Rifle Sling
One of the most practical accessories for any rifle is the rifle sling, a thin strip of tough material that can really lessen the load of carrying a gun long distances. It can also free the hands of the shooter for any additional tasks that may need need to be done while hunting, camping or shooting. Attaching a rifle sling to a rifle stock is an excellent task to be done in the off-season, when winter keeps the hunter or camper holed up indoors.

1
Remove the butt plate at the base of the hand grip on the rifle stock using the screwdriver. If there is no butt plate, or if there is no pre-drilled hole under the butt plate, you will have to drill into this place on the rifle. Use a drill bit that is slightly smaller in diameter than the screw at the end of the sling mount.

2
Attach the rear sling mount into the pre-drilled hole by placing the threads of the sling mount into the hole and rotating them clockwise until the sling mount is tight against the rifle stock. If necessary, this can be held in place using wood glue or all-purpose glue.

Remove the screw on the underside of the front grip of the rifle stock. This screw should be holding the stock to the barrel and action. If there is no screw, you will have to drill a hole into the underside of the front grip. Mount the front sling mount into this hole in the front of the stock. For some mounts, you will have to screw the front screw through the sling mount to secure it to the rifle.

4
Thread the rifle sling through the sling mounts until it is completely secured to the rifle. Adjust the length of the sling, using the variable sections to make it longer or shorter according to the needs of the wearer.

Tips & Warnings
Slings can also be attached to synthetic stocks, which will usually already have pre-drilled areas for ideal sling installation.
Slings come in a variety of styles, sizes and strengths. Choose a sling that will match the current look of the gun and suit your purposes and requirements of a sling.
Often, slings can be used to carry ammunition, using an integrated ammunition holder or an accessory added to the sling itself. Additional items can also be clipped to the sling or sling holders for convenience.
