How to Update Microsoft MSN Messenger
Windows Live Messenger, previously known as MSN Messenger, is a chat client made by Microsoft for sending text-messages. Many versions of this service exist, especially since the product comes bundled with operating systems. In order to ensure better security and enjoy the newest features, it is recommended that you update to the newest version of Messenger.

Load the Windows Live Messenger website in a Web browser (See the "Resources" section).

Select the language you use and click the blue "Download now" button.

Follow any prompts that may appear to start the download. Download prompts may vary depending on the operating system and browser you use.

Run the installer. On Vista and Windows 7 you will likely be prompted for permission to run the installer. Click "Continue" to begin the installation process.

Select the programs that you wish to install from the list of Windows Live software available. Remove the check mark from the boxes of any software you do not wish to install. Be sure that Windows Live Messenger is selected.

Click "Install" to download the selected software. A status bar will keep you updated on the installation progress. If your messenger is currently running, you will be asked to close it as part of the installation process.

Enable Windows Updates (optional) to automatically download and install any potential updates to the messenger in the future by going to "Control Panel," "Windows Updates" and :Change settings," and selecting "Automatically Install Important Updates."
