Windows contains a feature that allows you to keep tabs of certain background functions with small icons. These icons, for your printer, Internet connect and updates, sit in the system tray in the bottom-right corner of your desktop. You can add a Task Manager icon in that location to keep an eye on system resources.

Instructions

    • 1

Right-click on an empty spot on your desktop. A pop-up menu appears. Scroll down and click "New" and then "Shortcut."

    • 2

Type "taskmgr" in the field and click the "Next" button. Right-click the shortcut that was just created, scroll down and click "Properties."

    • 3

Click the "Shortcut" tab. Click the "Run" drop-down menu and choose "Minimized."

    • 4

Click the "Apply" button and then the "OK" button.
