Search for openings online at employment databases for PhD or terminal degree holders (i.e., Juris Doctor) professors. AMS.org, Mathjobs.org and Chronicle.com are examples of places to begin the search for an opening at colleges. The services are free to use. Using the Internet will save you time and provide a wider spectrum of postdoctoral job opportunities. Science, math, business and more can be researched. Also, you can look for research positions as well.

Contact your alumni association or the career services department. Speak with an adviser and inform her of your specialization preference for a postdoctoral position. Deliver an updated resume with your degrees, seminars, courses taught and so on. Apply for openings with the guidance of your counselor that may not be publicized to the general public yet. Sometimes, you may be able to obtain a faculty position before the application pool becomes larger.

Search for job openings by using innovative technology, like TweetMyJobs.com. Sign up for free text or instant message alerts about jobs meeting your interests. Also, posting your resume profile on LinkedIn and connecting directly with decision-makers at schools you wish to work at could be worth the effort to find and secure employment. To further enhance this strategy, you may want to create a web site with your professional accomplishments; it may be helpful in gaining job offers when looking for a postdoctoral job.
