How to Buy the Boss a Gift
It's not a necessity and you shouldn't feel obligated, but there are times when you may opt to give your boss a gift--a birthday, holiday, special achievement or celebration. You don't need to spend a lot of time or money to offer your supervisor a gift to mark an occasion.

Observe your boss's office for signs of personal interest and hobbies. Are there a lot of travel photos? Prints of nature, animals or golf scenes? Lots of CDs or an iPod? Scented items such as candles? These can provide insight into gifts you know will be a hit.

Observe his or her office or cubicle: my boss had pictures of family push-pinned to a bulletin board, so I picked a not-too-expensive multi-picture frame that was just the right size for the desk. -
