How to Hook a PC to a TV Using S-Video Cable

An S-video cable transmits an analog video signal from one device to another, such as from a computer to a TV. Many computers and most TV sets are equipped with a round S-video socket for quick connections using a standard S-video cable. Because TV sets typically have multiple connection jacks for hooking up different components, use the TV remote control to select the S-video connection for watching video transmitted from a computer or laptop.

Instructions

1. Turn off the TV and the computer to prevent a sudden power surge from causing potential damage to the TV screen when the video cable is connected.

2. Turn the plug on the end of the S-video cable so the notch on the rim of the plug lines up with the notch on the jack on the back of the computer tower or edge of a laptop. Push the plug into the jack as far as it will go to ensure the metal pins in the plug are fully inserted into the holes in the jack.

3. Connect the other plug on the end of the cable to the TV's S-video jack.

4. Turn on the TV and computer, then press and release the "Input" button on the TV remote control repeatedly until the image from the computer appears on the TV.
