How to Hang Kitchen Drying Racks
Hanging kitchen drying racks have been popular in Europe for several years, but have only been common in America since around 2009. This apparatus saves money on running the dishwasher, and can be incorporated into the design of any kitchen. Hang a drying rack above the sink, or in a cabinet next to the sink with a drip pan installed underneath it. Either way, the installation process is the same. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Measure the distance from the nearest wall to the middle of the sink. Transfer this measurement onto the wall directly above the sink by making a mark with your pencil. Measure the height of the rack and add 16 inches to this measurement. This will be the bottom of the drying rack. Measure up from the countertop this measurement and make a mark.
-
2
Place the drying rack on the wall. Line up the bottom with the marks you made and line up the center of the rack with the center mark you made in step 1. Trace the top of the drying rack with your pencil.

3
Tape the blue painter's tape on the back of the drying rack over the screw-hanging holes and poke through the tape into the hanging holes. Take off the tape and tape it to the wall using your marks as references.
-
4
Drill holes for the drying rack in the holes of the painter's tape with a cordless drill. Insert the drywall anchors that came with the drying rack into the holes and push them in with your thumbs. Insert the screws and tighten down with your drill until the screw head is about 1/4 inch from the wall. Remove the painter's tape.

5
Hang the drying rack from the anchored screws by pushing the shelf onto the walls over the mounting inserts and sliding the rack down. This will lock the rack into place.

Tips & Warnings
If you are mounting the drying rack in a cabinet, try to use a cabinet on the side you normally wash the dishes on for easy transfer.
Lay a cookie sheet under cabinet drying racks to catch excess water while the dishes are drying.
Make sure that the wall anchors are securely fastened into the drywall as the dishes can be fairly heavy. This is only a concern for drying racks installed over sinks as cabinet racks are installed directly into the back of the cabinet.
