Apple's Safari Web browser is a browser included with Mac OS X and available for free download on Windows. Apple regularly releases updated versions of Safari with security updates, new features, speed improvements and bug fixes. Apple's Safari browser is updated with Apple's Software Update application, which is part of the Mac OS X operating system and included with Safari for Windows. Upgrading your Safari browser to the latest version ensures your browser is secure and you have the latest features.

Instructions

  1. Windows

      Open Apple's Software Update program by clicking "Start," "All Programs" and "Apple Software Update."

      Check for updates by clicking "File" and "Check for Updates" in the Apple Software Update window.

      Select the new version of Safari by clicking the check-box to its left in the top pane of the Apple Software Update window. If no versions of Safari are displayed in the window, you already have the latest version of the Safari browser.

      Upgrade your Safari browser by clicking the "Install 1 Item" button at the bottom of the Apple Software Update window.

      Read the license agreement if one appears and click "Accept" if you accept.

      Consent to the upgrade by clicking "Yes" to the User Account Control prompt, if one appears.

    Mac OS X

    • 7

      Click the "Apple" icon at the upper left corner of your desktop.

      Click "Software Update" in the Apple menu.

      Select the Safari update by clicking the check-box to its left in the Software Update window. You already have the latest version of Safari if none appear in the list.

      Upgrade Safari by clicking the "Install" button at the bottom of the Software Update window.

      Authenticate yourself by typing your administrator account name and password into the respective boxes.

Tips & Warnings

  • Update the operating system and its other included software with Software Update on Mac OS X or update iTunes and QuickTime with Apple Software Update on Windows.
