How to Email Music in Electronic Press Kits

How to Email Music in Electronic Press Kits thumbnail
Send electronic press kits through email to target a more selective audience.

An electronic press kit is a virtual version of a traditional press kit, used frequently by artists in the music industry to get their names out to potential fans, media outlets and potential employers. These press kits can be contained within a website, or sent through email, and contain many of the same components as physical press kits. Band photos, biographies, music and video samples, album covers, and lyrics are all commonly included in electronic press kits. When emailing electronic press kits, the most important segment is the music files, usually added as an attachment.

Instructions

    • 1

Save the music file or files to your computer desktop. Consider transferring the format of your music files to MP3, a common file type for music. Use a music managing program to add artist, album and song info, such as lyrics, to the MP3 file.

Compose an email. Locate and click the "Add Attachment" button. The location of the button, as well as the text on it, will vary for different email providers. Refer to your email provider's help section for help in finding the exact location of your attachment button.

    • 3

Click the "Browse" button in your message if an automatic search window does not pop up. The location of the button will vary by email provider, but clicking it will open up a search window no matter who your email provider is. Click the icon that reads "Desktop," select your saved music file and double-click to attach to your email.

    • 4

Add pictures, band biographies, video clips and any other desired components of your electronic press kit to the email using the methods listed in Steps 2 and 3. If your press kit is being sent to a record label or agent, be sure to include contact information above and beyond an email address, such as a phone number.

Wait for the selected files to attach to the email. Depending on the size, it may take a few seconds. A progress bar will appear if the file does not attach immediately, and will disappear once your email is ready to send.
