How to Install a Dell Printer Photo Cartridge

Dell printers have the ability to use a photo color cartridge to allow you to print sharp photos with your printer. Installing a Dell printer photo cartridge requires removing the black ink cartridge from the printer. Installing the cartridge itself is no different than replacing cartridges as you normally would in your Dell printer. Place the black ink cartridge on a paper towel until you are ready to reinstall it in your printer.

Instructions

    • 1

Press the "On" button for your printer with your finger. Allow the printer to go through its initial start-up phase.

    • 2

Lift up the front cover with your fingers until the cover locks itself open. Grasp below the front control console to lift up the top and front cover of the printer. The ink cartridge carriage will begin to move and position the ink cartridges in full view of the opening.

    • 3

Disengage the cartridge holder over the black ink cartridge. If the holder on your model snaps over the cartridge, lift the holder up with your fingertip. If your model uses the tab holder in front of the cartridge, press the holder down.

    • 4

Grasp the rear top edge of the black ink cartridge with your fingertip, and pull forward slightly to disengage the cartridge. Pull the black ink cartridge straight out of the carriage.

    • 5

Pull the two pieces of protective tape off the new cartridge. Insert it into the carriage. The cartridge will only insert one way.

    • 6

Close the holder tab over the cartridge until it snaps into position. Close the cover on the printer and print a test page.
