Making images using symbols on your keyboard is known as ASCII art.

It seems as if nearly everyone has those cute symbols in their email signatures or inserted into IM chats. If you're a feline fancier, making a cat's face using your keyboard--also known as ASCII art--is simple and a fun way to make your message uniquely yours. There are several variations on the cat face using your keyboard symbols, but the simplest requires only five keyboard strokes.

Instructions

    • 1

Make an equal sign. Example: =

    • 2

Hold down the "Shift" key and push the numeral "6" key. Use the number at the top of the keyboard and not the keypad on the right of some keyboards. So far you should have: =^

    • 3

Press the period key twice. You should now have: =^..

    • 4

Hold down the "Shift" key and push the numeral "6" key again. You should now have: =^..^

    • 5

Make a final equal sign and you have your cat face: =^..^=

Tips & Warnings

  • If you'd like to add a body to your cat, push the "Enter" key after the final equal sign. Then make an open parenthesis, a quotation mark and close the parentheses. Make a space and repeat these keystrokes to make the second paw. Example:

  • =^..^=

  • (") (")
