How to Embed a Font in Adobe Acrobat 8

A benefit of PDF files is that they appear the same on all computers, regardless of the different fonts available on different systems. However, if you want to use the TouchUp Text Tool with a specific font, that font must be installed on the computer system you are using. Adobe Acrobat 8 allows you to embed fonts in a document to ensure the same fonts are usable on any computer system. Your ability to embed fonts may be restricted by the licensing of a particular font.

Instructions

    • 1

Go to the "Tools" menu, select "Advanced Editing" and highlight "TouchUp Text Tool."

    • 2

Click text with the font you want to embed. A bounding box appears around the text.

    • 3

Right-click or control-click within the bounding box and select "Properties" from the contextual menu. The "TouchUp Properties" window opens.

    • 4

Select the "Text" tab at the top of the window. The font name and embedding options appear in the window. If "Can Embed Font" or "Can Embed Font For Print And Preview Only" is available, place a check mark in the box next to "Embed." If you see "Cannot Embed Font" or "No System Font Available," you cannot embed the font. Press the "Close" button to return to the PDF.
