Step 1
Select from items such as the following: soft stuffed animals; clothing, especially one-piece sleepwear with snaps; disposable diapers; small toys for ages six months to two years; lullaby tapes; a portable tape player; batteries for the tape player; and a disposable camera with flash.
-
Step 2
Pick a basket style. Your choices include those with one handle, with two side handles or without handles. Make certain the basket is large enough to hold the gifts you have selected.
-
Step 3
Decide on the color of the basket by choosing one that complements the baby's room decor. If in doubt, choose a neutral color by selecting a natural wicker basket.
-
Step 4
Use shredded paper filling to make the gifts fit snugly in the basket.
-
Step 5
Buy a cute greeting card for a newborn.
-
Step 1
Wrap each present with a baby theme gift wrap.
-
Step 2
Put a layer of shredded paper filling on the bottom of the basket.
-
Step 3
Place the wrapped gifts vertically or horizontally in the basket, as space allows, pushing the filling between gifts to ensure a very snug fit. Cover some of the gifts completely with the filling to create mini surprises when the basket is unpacked.
-
Step 4
Place the basket in the center of a large piece of clear or tinted cellophane gift wrap. You may need two pieces of the wrap to completely cover a large basket.
-
Step 5
Bring all sides of the wrap up to a few inches above the top of the basket. Secure the wrap by tying it with a long, colorful ribbon.
-
Step 6
Tape your greeting card onto the wrap.

on 11/22/2005 When buying various gifts for the newborn, wrap the pack of diapers with the blanket using diaper pins and a rattle for decoration. Put your items in a diaper pail (instead of using a basket).

on 11/22/2005 I always include 2 nail clippers. One can be kept in the baby's room and the other one can be in the baby's bag.

on 11/22/2005 Instead of using shredded paper as filler, put in a burp cloth, receiving blanket and/or cloth diaper. Use a plastic container instead of a basket so parents can reuse it to hold diaper-changing or bath items, pacifiers, rattles, etc.
