Text messaging is very useful. Sometimes, however, you may not be able to use a wireless device to send a text because of a poor signal in the area or lack of access to a cell phone. You can send a message to a cell phone using your computer to access an email account.

Open up your email account.

Create a new email. Type the 10-digit number of the person you want to text in the "To" field, followed by the carrier-specific email text address (see Resources). For instance, if you would like to send an email text to a person using a phone on the Verizon network who has the number 555-123-4567 you would enter "5551234567@vtext.com" in the email's "To" field.

Compose your text in the "Message" area. Most text messages are limited to 160 characters sent at a time. Keep your message below the 160-character limit to avoid having your message cut short.

Click "Send" and your message will be sent to a mobile device in text message form. If the receiver replies you will receive there text correspondence in your email inbox. Reply to the received email to continue texting back and forth.
