HP C4280 Refill Instructions
The Hewlett Packard (HP) C4280 printer uses the HP #74 and HP #75 ink cartridges. Each of the ink cartridges can be refilled using a refill kit. You can fill your own ink cartridges at home to save time and money. The cartridge must be filled soon after it runs out of ink to prevent the cartridge from drying up. Each kit includes the necessary materials to refill the HP cartridge.

1
Lay down a piece of newspaper on a table where you will work. Remove the supplies that come in the refill kit. The HP 74 kit will have one bottle of black ink and one syringe. The HP 75 kit will have one bottle of each color ink and three syringes.

2
Use your fingernail to lift up a corner of the label on each cartridge and pull back to remove the label. Use the toothpick to test the color cartridge vent holes so that you know what color will go in each vent hole. The magenta should be on the lower left side, the cyan on the lower right side and the yellow at the top. The black cartridge vent hole is at the top.

3
Fill each syringe with one color by inserting the needle into the ink bottle and pulling back on the top of the syringe. The color ink syringes should have 6 milliliters of ink and the black ink syringe should have 20 milliliters of ink.
-
4
Place the tip of the needle into the vent hole for the corresponding color. Push down as far as the needle will go easily without force. Press down on the top of the syringe slowly so that the ink is injected into the cartridge. Do this for each of the colors and the black ink. If any ink seeps out of the fill hole, use the rag to wipe up the ink and stop filling. This could mean that the sponge may not be entirely empty.
-
5
Replace the HP 74 and HP 75 ink cartridge in the printer. Run two to three test pages so that the ink can cycle. Use any document with some color and black text for the test.
