How to Use Vellum Paper to Make Wedding Invitations
Create professional-looking layered invitations at home with decorative paper and printable vellum. Find the papers at most craft stores or order them from scrapbooking websites. Look for a patterned paper that fits with the theme of your wedding, and pair it with a semi-translucent vellum paper in a complementary color. Make one card at a time until you perfect your design; then recreate your masterpiece in bulk to finish your wedding invitations.

1
Design the text of your wedding invitation in a word processing program until you are satisfied with its appearance.
-
2
Print the invitation out onto a piece of copy paper to ensure that you are happy with the size and appearance of your design. The invitation must be small enough to fit in your envelopes without being folded.
-
-
3
Place a sheet of printable vellum into your printer and print the wedding invitation text onto the vellum.
-
4
Lift the printed vellum sheet carefully from your printer and place it on a flat surface to dry. Avoid touching or moving the vellum paper for at least 20 minutes, so you do not smear the ink.
-
5
Cut a piece of heavyweight, decorative paper or cardstock to the desired size of your wedding invitation. Choose a paper or cardstock with a pattern you like, because it will be visible through the vellum.
-
6
Cut the vellum to the same size as the invitation. Make sure the text is centered on the piece of vellum. You can also cut the vellum slightly smaller than the invitation to create a border around the vellum.
-
7
Place the vellum on top of the decorative paper until you are satisfied with the appearance of the invitation.
-
8
Punch two holes through both the vellum and paper near the top of the card with a hole punch. Space the holes approximately one inch apart.
-
9
Thread one piece of ribbon through both of the holes from the back of the card. Tie the ends of the ribbon together to form a bow on the front of the card. This holds the layers of the invitation together and adds a decorative element to your wedding invitation.

Tips & Warnings
Do not use glue to attach the vellum paper to the invitations. The dry adhesive will be visible through the vellum paper.
