How to Repair Pool Cues

How to Repair Pool Cues thumbnail
Repair your own pool cue.

You may not be as good at pool as Tom Cruise or Paul Newman in "The Color of Money," but that doesn't mean you can't look it. Whether you are a pro or a novice, maintaining your pool stick is second only to skill in ensuring a clean break. Over time, through normal use your pool cue may begin to wear. Rather than getting rid of your lucky stick, solve the problem by replacing the cue yourself.

Things You'll Need

  • Razor blade
  • 60-80 grit sandpaper
  • Superglue gel
  • Cue
  • 400-600 grit sandpaper

Instructions

    • 1

Cut off the remains of the old cue using your razor blade. Sand the top of the ferule fate using the 60-80 grit sandpaper. Sand the bottom of the replacement cue tip with the same sandpaper until the surface is rough.

    • 2

Apply a thin coat of superglue gel to the ferule and the bottom of the cue tip. Center the cue tip on top of the ferule and hold it in place for 1 minute.

    • 3

Point the cut stick down. Cut away the excess overhang from the cue tip until it is flush with the ferule.

    • 4

Wet the sides of the cue tip lightly. Smooth the cue tip to your desired diameter using the 400-600 grit sandpaper.

Tips & Warnings

  • Choose a cue tip wider than your ferule to have more leeway when shaping it.

  • Be mindful of your fingers when using the razor blade.
