How to Replace a CMOS Battery for the ThinkPad 600E
All modern computers require a Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor (CMOS) chip even when the machine is not in use and when the power is off. The chip retains hardware configuration settings for the computer, boot order settings as well as date and time information.
The CMOS battery allows the chip to retain these important settings for your computer when no other power source is available. A CMOS battery is like any other battery type and eventually requires replacement. Replace the CMOS battery in your ThinkPad 600E if you constantly need to reset the hardware or time and date settings for the laptop.
