    • 1

Pluck the petals gently from the rose. Sort though the petals and select the ones that are not torn or bruised.

    • 2

Lay the petals in a single layer on the freeze-drying tray. Insert the tray into the machine. Shut the door.

    • 3

Turn the freeze-dryer on. The recommended temperature for freeze-drying roses is -20 Fahrenheit. However, this can vary depending on rose type, environment and machine. It may take several attempts to find the correct temperature for the desired results.

Use the vacuum pump to remove all air from the freezer once the freezer reaches the desired temperature. The vacuum pump is located in a different spot on different types of freeze dryers. Refer to your user's manual if you are unsure where yours is located or how to use it.

Freeze the rose petals for one to two weeks. The temperature of the freeze-dryer will rise daily, until the petals reach room temperature. If you are using an older model dryer, you'll have to raise the temperature manually by 10 degrees each day after the first 72 hours.
