Experience makeup. In order to be a MAC artist or a makeup artist in general you'll want to have some experience with makeup. Do you get compliments all of the time on your own makeup? Then reach out to others and offer your services to gain experience working with different complexions, colors, and application techniques.

2
Know your MAC. MAC Cosmetics is known for its decadent shades, "highly-pigmented" powders, and uniquely creative names for each color. Just as some other professions require training and education, it wouldn't hurt to take yourself through a crash course in the basic "foundation" of MAC from the history to the product. And if you're truly ambitious, MAC even offers "advanced classes for professional artists in select cities."
