Chocolate wedding favors are easy and affordable to make.

Because weddings cost a lot of money, some couples choose the do-it-yourself approach to save money. Making your own chocolate wedding favors is one way to do that. Usually, wedding favors cost between $2 and $3 per guest if you figure in the packaging. If you have 200 guests, you are spending quite a bit of money just to give guests a gift for attending. Making your own candy wedding favors can save a ton of money and be fun, too.

Instructions

  1. Creating Chocolate Wedding Favors

    • 1

Choose your candy molds. You can find these in confectionery and baking stores or websites specializing in candy making. Many designs are available so browse through the choices and find one that matches your wedding theme or that symbolizes a wedding. Hearts, joined rings, or wedding bells are some commonly available options.

    • 2

Melt your chocolate. You can use chocolate chips or chunks of chocolate for this step. Either way, use caution during melting because chocolate can scorch easily and that doesn't make for delicious wedding favors. Melt the chocolate in small batches in a microwave safe bowl in your microwave. You can also use a double boiler to melt the chocolate slowly over hot water.

    • 3

Pour the melted chocolate into the molds. Don't overfill them because the chocolate will harden on the mold and make removing the candies difficult. Take a peek at the molds to be sure the chocolate is filling all of the crevices. If not, give the mold a soft tap on the counter and that should correct the problem.

    • 4

Place the filled molds into a freezer. The chocolate hardens in a matter of minutes. You can remove them from the molds as soon as they harden, but it is better to let them set overnight in the freezer.

    • 5

Package the chocolate favors. You can purchase drawstring pouches, tiny boxes, or other packaging at craft stores. Place one to three of the wedding favors inside the box or pouch. If you're worried about melted chocolate seeping out of the packaging, add a piece of wax paper inside. You may want to keep the filled packages in a freezer or cool area to prevent premature melting. Tie ribbon around the box or to the pouch for an extra decoration.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can choose different types of chocolate for your wedding favors. Milk, dark, or white chocolate all work well. Try adding food coloring to the white chocolate if other colors are desired.

  • Do not heat the chocolate until it becomes completely melted. Remove the chocolate from the heat when it starts to melt or gets shiny. Stir the chocolate until it melts the rest of the way to prevent overheating.
