1
Shake out your feather mattress cover once a week. Take the mattress cover outdoors and hang it over a clothes line or have a second person hold it. Shake the feather mattress cover to loosen dust, dirt or other particles, or hit the mattress cover with a clean spatula to loosen dust and dirt.
-
2
Lay your feather mattress cover on a clean floor. Sprinkle baking soda over the feather mattress cover and rub it in with clean hands. Allow the baking soda to sit on the feather mattress cover for a few hours to deodorize.

3
A vacuum helps keep your feather mattress cover clean. Vacuum the feather mattress cover, using a vacuum hose attachment, to remove the baking soda and any remaining dirt or dust.
-
4
Remove wet stains from your feather mattress cover by pouring baking soda over the site of the dampness and allowing the baking soda to soak the dampness up. Vacuum off the baking soda as it becomes wet and apply more, if needed, until the stain and dampness have been absorbed.
-
5
Sponges clean feather mattress covers gently, but effectively. Dampen a sponge with ammonia to tackle any other stains or spots on your feather mattress cover. Blot at the stain or spot from the outside, working your way in. Rinse the sponge thoroughly with cold water and apply more ammonia, blotting until the stain is lifted.
-
6
Allow your feather mattress cover to air dry near an open window, if possible, after spot cleaning with ammonia. This will speed the drying process and help rid your room of the ammonia smell if it's too strong for you.
