How to Change Default Search in IE6

Like the newer versions of the web browser, Internet Explorer 6 comes installed with Microsoft's Bing as the default search engine. If you are not happy with Bing as your default search engine, you can tweak the IE6 browser settings so that you have a different default search engine. Microsoft expected that some users may want to change the default search engine on the IE6 browser and have made it easy to change.

Instructions

    • 1

Launch Internet Explorer 6 if you do not already have a browser window open.

    • 2

Go to the "Add Search Providers to Internet Explorer" web page provided by Microsoft. A link is provided in Resources.

    • 3

Select the search engine that you want to add to IE6 by clicking on it. The "Add Search Provider" box will appear on your screen. Click on the box by "Make this my default search provider" to put a check in it and change the default search for IE6. Click "Add" to save your settings.
