How to Upgrade the Sony Vaio PCV-RX650 DDR
DDR (Double Data Rate) memory is one of the most common types of memory used in PC's. The Sony Vaio PCV-RX650 desktop is installed with a single stick of 512 MB DDR SDRAM. It has two available slots for RAM but it can be expanded to 1 GB of RAM. Fortunately, upgrading RAM is one of the fastest and easiest ways to upgrade your laptop. You can also purchase DDR RAM for most any computer online (see Resources).

1
Turn off your desktop computer. Disconnect the power cable from its socket on the pack panel of the computer. Disconnect and remove any miscellaneous peripheral devices. Use an Electrostatic Discharge wrist strap to prevent damage to your desktop caused by static electricity.
-
2
Rotate the desktop so the back panel is facing you. Locate the locking lever in the upper-right corner of the back panel. Grasp the right side access panel, and remove it from the desktop casing.

3
Place the laptop on its left side with the open side of the laptop facing up. Locate the power supply attached to the inside of the desktop's back panel. Remove the single retaining Phillips-head screw from the power supply. Pull on the locking tab securing the power supply to the back panel. Place the power supply so it is no longer obstructing your view of the memory slots.
-
4
Locate the RAM module you want to remove. There are two memory slots but there should only be one module installed. Spread the white latches on either side of the module. Lift it out of the memory compartment. Store the module in a static-free plastic bag.
-
5
Align the notches on the new RAM module with the notches on the empty memory slot. Place the module into the memory slot until the locking latches snap the module into place. Repeat this step for each RAM module you install.
-
6
Align the grooves on the power supply with the grooves on the back panel of the desktop. Slide the power supply down on the back panel's grooves until the retaining latch snaps the power supply into place. Replace the single retaining screw.
-
7
Replace the side access panel, re-connect the power cable and any external devices.
