Mac Delete Key Won't Work in Finder

Finder is a program on a Mac computer that helps you access nearly every file in a visual manner on your Mac. If you can't use the "Delete" button with Finder open on your Mac computer, it means the Finder is acting up. The only way to correct the Finder's behavior is by relaunching the Finder on your computer. You don't have to restart your Mac in order to do this. In fact, there are several ways you can relaunch the Finder on Mac computer if it is misbehaving.

      Go to the Apple menu and select "Force Quit". Choose the Finder and click "Force Quit". The Finder will relaunch.

      Select the Finder from the Dock and hold down the "Option" key on your keyboard. Select "Relaunch" from the menu.

      Open "Terminal" on your Mac in the "Applications/Utilities" folder. Type in "killall Finder && open /System/Library/CoreServices/Finder.app" or "% ps -caux | grep Finder" (without quotes) and press the "Return" button on your keyboard. Select "Quit" from the File menu to quit Terminal.

  • Relaunching the Finder should fix any problems you are having with it. If not, restart your Mac. Click "Restart" in the Apple menu and wait for your Mac to boot back up.
