Using a calling card to send a fax can reduce the your monthly phone bill charges.

Most HP all-in-one printers can print, copy, scan and fax. Many can send and receive color faxes. You can use a calling card to send a fax using your HP all-in-one printer. To do this, you must use the control panel or an attached handset to manually enter the numbers on your calling card and dial the telephone number where the fax is going to be sent. You will also need to have your printer/fax connected directly to a telephone line designated for the fax machine only.

Instructions

    • 1

Load the document you want to fax into your HP all-in-one printer. There are drawings on your fax machine indicating if the document needs to be placed faced up or down in the paper feeder.

    • 2

Press the "Hook" button on the control panel or pick up the attached handset. You will hear dial tone if the fax machine is hooked up to a telephone line. If your fax machine does not have either a "Hook" button or an attached handset, you will have to plug a handset into your all-in-one printer. There's a spot of the side of the printer to do this. You cannot use a cordless phone to do this. Plugging a handset into your all-in-one will allow you to send the fax manually and hear what you are dialing.

    • 3

Dial the calling card number. Typically this is a toll-free number located on the back of your calling card.

    • 4

Enter the PIN for the calling card. This is a set of numbers unique to your calling card. If you are using a reloadable calling card, this number is on the back of the card.

    • 5

Dial the fax number. If it is a long-distance number, don't forget to dial 1 and then the area code before entering the phone number. Wait for the fax tone.

    • 6

Press "Send" or "Start FAX Black" button on the fax machine to send the fax. Your HP all-in-one may print a confirmation letter following the fax, indicating it was sent. The date and time is also printed on this letter. If a confirmation letter doesn't print, look at the readout screen to see a message saying the fax was sent successfully.
